This is a late Qing dynasty 1920's lidded cigarette box made of an exotic black rosewood known as hung-mu.  Skillfully made with a fitted lid that meshes perfectly with the base.
This cigarette box has been well used yet well loved and, aside from minor signs of past

good condition

It measures 4 1/2" wide by 4" deep by 1 1/4" tall (11 x 10 x 2 cm).
